Philosophy of religion is a branch of philosophy that explores fundamental questions about the nature of religious belief, for example, questions about the meaning, coherence, and justification of religious claims or statements, as well as their relationship to religious and spiritual practices. The questions in philosophy of religion often involve an application of or interaction with questions and concepts from other branches of philosophy, such as philosophy of language, ethics, metaphysics, philosophy of science, and epistemology. While philosophy of religion is largely conceptual in nature, it also interacts with more empirically oriented questions that are the focus in fields such as psychology, sociology, anthropology, history, and cognitive neuroscience.
